Gion Festival
One of the first mokuhanga prints I tried at Tokuriki Sensei's studio was of a Gion Festival (Matsuri) float I had sketched during the July event way back in 1975. Only my mother had the nerve to frame that one. I placed my unaligned attempt in a box in the closet. Several years later I tried again. The second attempt is "Gion Matsuri, on this website. It was cut while I was living in Japan from a wonderful wood, silver magnolia. Unfortunately I made only a few prints and they quickly disappeared. Last year, I googled Gion photos and saw that the float I had sketched so many years ago, was quite different than how I had embellished it. For fun, I tried it one more time..
