Gion Festival

The first time I saw Kyoto’s Gion Festival was in the mid-1970’s.    While living in Japan, I did two prints of this particular float, which I gave to Tokuriki Sensei.  To my surprise, he then presented me with two of his own wonderful Gion Matsuri prints, my treasures.

This third version was made in 2006 while living in Connecticut, far from the excitement of the actual event.
