Cheung Chau Island
Cheung Chau in Hong Kong was my favorite island back in 1974. The island is shaped like barbells, with mountains at both ends and a village in the center. While studying in Japan, I did my first print of Cheung Chau from a watercolor I had done of the island. That print was changed from my original idea to make the print “stronger” to please a teacher. Twenty years later, finding my original watercolor, I decided to do the print again, as I had originally planned.
This version of Cheung Chau Island was carved from nine blocks of basswood plywood.
