“Egrets, I’ve Had a Few”

This narrow print was made in celebration of the 100th Print Exchange of the Baren Forum, an online community of woodblock printmakers. The paper size was set at 4.5” x 28” – the traditional size of Japanese Hashira-e or Pillar Prints, which were popular in the late 1700’s. I read that Hashira-e were pasted onto the wooden pillars of Japanese homes, perhaps as a substitution for more expensive silk paintings or hanging scrolls. It was a fun and challenging project – no regrets.

Actual Size: 4.5″ x 28″
