Papa Goose

For over a month in the spring of 2020, I watched a pair of Canada Geese caring for eggs in a nest they built on top of the main beaver lodge on our pond. Through wind, rain, and snow, Mama Goose stayed on those eggs. Papa Goose was on guard duty; his portrait became this woodcut. Five goslings hatched but sadly, they became some animal’s dinner after only one week.
